Students were working with Duncan Keith a privateer racing driver testing and running a Clubsport Radical race car which was entered into the OSS Championship at UK circuits including Silverstone, Donington and Brands Hatch.
Rob, James and Tom were level 3 motorsport students from The College of West Anglia. They were selected to take part in one of the Student Motorsport projects after we were contacted and received recommendation from one of their motorsport tutors at the college. Rob and James have also enjoyed working on a number of other Student Motorsport projects we have run which you will be able to read about on our site in the success stories area.
After working to improve their respective motorsport skills and industry experience Rob was able to secure a role at the college he studied at as a motorsport technician and works supporting a formula ford team and also went on to work with Thatchway Motorsport with their Radical Sr4 during the 2012 season. Rob told us: "I was involved in the Student Motorsport projects in the early stages of the site, they took me under their wing and gave me many opportunities working with motorsport teams."
"Getting involved with Student Motorsport has without doubt doubled my confidence and ability with working with different types of race cars...I was able to improve my skills in areas such as race car setup, mechanics and team operations. I really appreciate being selected for this great opportunity." Robert Sykes
James went on to secure an 8 month overseas apprenticeship with an electric car components company in Finland as a Quality Technician developing hybrid battery packs.
"Student Motorsport helped me find motorsport work experience on more than one occasion, also allowing me to work abroad. I learned technical knowledge such as converting and engine from wet sump to dry sump set up, and also adapting to changing weather conditions and adjusting the car set up." James Blackburn
Tom went on to work with Thatchway Motorsport with their Radical Sr4 during the 2012 season. Some of the highlights included several wins and podiums, but overall the main highlight was winning the overall and class championship.
"Student Motorsport have been brilliant to work with, they are a very professional company with a wide range of motorsport contacts, which makes it easier for a student or graduate to find work placements or employment." Tom Harrison
