How I contribute to Student Motorsport

Innes Hickman

"Hi I'm Innes, you’ll find me in and amongst the Student Motorsport Resource Centre where I write articles on topics such as suspension set up, engine tuning, Hewland gearboxes, general preparation, fastenings advice and so on for single seaters.

I’m proud to be involved with Student Motorsport which is, I believe, a perfect way for JP the founder to bring people together, share his knowledge and ensure that motorsport engineering students worldwide can benefit from this community his knowledge, experience and contacts."

What I do

“I have worked in engineering all of my working life and for most of that time have been involved in motorsport at various levels running my own cars in speed events and circuit racing.

I now run my own motorsport team, Minitron Racing and enter my car in the Champion of Brands FF1600 series and the Formula Ford Festival.  I also run cars for other people and during 2015 we ran cars for Simon Pruce and Richard Tarling.

Since 2009, I have provided The College of West Anglia with technical assistance with their Formula Ford  single seater and have also been involved with Brooklands College in Surrey with their BritCar Audi project as well as their Fiesta Challenge car and Jamun FFZetec."

More about me

"My passion is with single seater’s where I have amassed a wealth of knowledge with this type of car both as a driver and an engineer."

Innes is able to bridge the gap between the driver and team technicians and provide useful, constructive technical feedback as well as providing realistic solutions to problems and hands-on assistance.

Innes started off in motorsport in Minis in the early 1990’s and to save time and money did all the preparation himself, his engineering career helping to provide the skills and experience required for such projects.  His desire to go faster soon got him into single seater’s and Formula Ford 1600 specifically.  These cars always fascinated him as a child and he fulfilled one of his childhood dreams of owning his own Van Diemen.
